A Visit with Cynthia Solomon: A Giant in the Field of Ed. Tech

In the Beginning: Ed Tech in the 1960's - 80's

If you are still looking for a place for your child to land on Monday January 17th for a fun, engaging educational time, we still have space in a few of our classes. Call us at 212 245-0444 or email us and we'll help you find the right class!

Tomorrow at 12:30 pm we have a special treat for anyone interested in learning more about education, learning, and the history of Educational Technology. How did we go from punch cards to kids designing video games? We'll learn more from our guest Cynthia Solomon. Cynthia Solomon, one of a small group of 5, that included Seymour Papert, Dan Bobrow, Wally Feurzeig, herself and one other, created a computer language for children, called LOGO. She will be speaking with me about her work in the 60's up until the dawn of the personal computer in the 80's as she created the foundational computer language called LOGO, the precursor to Scratch. Scratch, is a language used by over 80 million kids around the world. Learn about this great history!

As I spoke with Cynthia today, I got so excited and inspired by learning more about this history. History that affects all of your children today. LEGO robotics, Scratch, and Turtle Art all come from her work directly and indirectly. How did all this happen? Come and listen to learn more. We will be discussing her work in the 1960's up until the 80's, a key time to the development of creative uses of technology for children.

Cynthia Solomon - Computer Scientist & Technology Pioneer

Cynthia will share with us how she got involved in developing LOGO, the pre-cursor to Scratch, which is used today by over 82 million children around the world. What did this field look like 55 years ago in 1965? What was it like to design a computer language? Come join us! Tomorrow, January 13th at 12:30pm!
