Book Groups! Would this be Good for your Family?

What are you reading with your children? AND MORE SUMMER DISCOUNTS!!!

When I was a kid, my mom was in a book group. I remember all the adults sitting around our living room. I wasn't allowed in, but I was curious and it stuck with me. Perhaps the fact that I wasn't allowed in, piqued my curiosity! Now I am in a book group and it is really important to me. What about your kids? Here are some ideas from veteran moms who ran a book group for kids and families.

  1. Keep them moving! Depending upon the age of the children involved, have them re-enact scenes, discuss while walking, or in between physical activities, video games, or board games.

  2. Keep the kids involved in the selection of the books (movie or graphic novel). If they are invested, they'll be more likely to value it.

  3. Make sure it is fun! Don't just discuss the book, maybe watch a movie (if it's available), or end the book group with a meal together.

What is your goal with this? To help your children learn to express their ideas, hear ideas that may be different from their own, be respectful of ideas they may disagree with. To find a way to have quality time with your child is another important goal. We want our kids to be curious about ideas, lifelong thinkers, and learners. This setting is a great way to reinforce these goals.
