Your Child's Learning During Downtime? 3 Things to Observe and Support!
Noticing and Supporting your Child's Growth. Vacation Camps for December!
We're at the end of a little break from our normal routines. It can be a fun time to observe your child and notice and support their growth. Here are a few ideas.
Helping: Are you supporting them in helping with household tasks? Are you noticing if they pitch in? This site gives some great ideas for helping children learn to do chores and appropriate chores by the age of the child.
Independent Time: Are they able to spend their independent time well? Can they happily play with other children? Can they enjoy time on their own? There is a lot of evidence of the importance of children learning to manage both structured and unstructured.
Reading! Developing a habit of reading is really fantastic for your brain and your physical and emotional health. There are many ways to do this: as a family, reading out loud to your kids, listening to an audiobook, or reading independently. If it isn't in your daily routine, how could you add it? If you are all reading the same book, you have lots of food for discussion. Especially with pre-teens and teens, it can be hard to find ways to communicate that are not about homework or to-do lists... This gives a positive fun way to connect.
The links provided above give you more ideas in a helpful format. We notice in our classes that children who are able to manage their independence can readily help with classroom tasks or can discuss ideas. These are goals that are very important to developing mature, well-balanced happy adults.
For our next break from school (December 18th - 30th), we have the following offerings for PreK - 8th grade including Python coding, Scratch coding, PreK Little Engineers & Coders, and Robotics for 1st- 6th grade. We have half-day classes or your child can stay the full day as well.
