What is Stop Motion Animation & Will My Child Learn?
Persistence, Insistence, and Consistence
When we care about something, our concept of hard, or of boring, isn't usually a part of our mental outlook. Instead, we engage, focus, and want to learn more. When we create ways for kids to learn that are project-based, this often happens. My marketing guru uses the praise "persistence, insistence, consistence" for marketing, but it also applies to learning. If you keep working at something, if you keep digging deeper, it is impossible NOT to learn.
With stop motion animation, children are creating their own stories, figuring out frame by frame how to design, organize, stage, and film. They are developing a story arc and bringing it to life. On the technical side, they have to learn to film, edit, add sound, and all on a new software application. Here are some examples of stop motion animation, by the animator Nick Park. Making great animation marries creativity with attentiveness to detail, moving slowly, and deliberately; important skills for our kids to develop.
Currently, our animation classes are very popular, engaging, and a great social outlet during the pandemic. If you'd like to sign up your child, please click on one of the links below. If you prefer to register by phone, don't hesitate to call our office at (212) 245-0444.

To learn more about filmmaking, please join us this Friday at 10 AM for my online interview with Producer, Director, and Robofun Mom, Alexis Bloom. In 2014, Alexis was the recipient of the Producer’s Guild of America Award for We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks. In 2017, Alexis was nominated for two Emmys for Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, an HBO film she directed. Her latest film, “Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes,” was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2019. Maybe your child wants to direct or produce movies? Can you find a way to help them get there? This talk may give you some ideas.
