Robofun's Upcoming Winter Vacation Camp

Most of All, We're Grateful for You!

We're about a week out from Thanksgiving break. We're super excited to eat a beautiful meal, spend time with our families, and take a moment to reflect on all that we're grateful for.

Something else we're grateful for? Vacation camp on 11/11! It was a beautiful day full of laughter, builds, and creativity. We had so many young scholars hanging out at the Robofun studio all day while school was out!

Here's a super cool project made by one of our students!

For more great building and coding, check out Robofun's class schedule! Winter vacation camp is open for registration! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Noah Diamond any time at noah@robofun.org or by giving us a call at (212) 245-0444!

The results are in!

Thanks to everyone who participated in last week's poll! 40% of us selected the below answer!

The question: "What is the term for an algorithm that purposefully takes you down a path that is NOT in your best interest?"

The correct answer: Dark Design

Wikipedia's Definition: A dark design pattern is "a user interface that has been carefully crafted to trick users into doing things, such as buying overpriced insurance with their purchase or signing up for recurring bills."

FastCompany: Says "dark design [is] the practice of creating user interfaces that are intentionally designed to trick or deceive the user [and] has proven to be an incredibly effective way of encouraging web users to part with their time, money, and privacy." If you're interested, here's a link to read the rest of the article.

Also, below is a video with a few different "dark pattern designs" that you might recognize!

Please beware and be very careful when inputting any personal information onto the internet! Now we're all a bit more equipment to see the signs of dark designs!

Thanks you for playing!

Robofun is always offering classes Monday thru Friday. Birthday parties and vacation days as well! Our class schedule by grade can be found here. You can register online or call Noah at (212) 245-0444!
