Enrolling for Spring After School and an Amazing Learning Moment Observed
Earlier this week I had an amazing opportunity to visit a class at The College of Staten Island. I arrived 15 minutes early, and I was startled to see students already in the class and talking to each other. I assumed that this was a different class, or I was in the wrong place. The professor encourages her students to come early and get ready for the class to begin. Why was I so startled? Here are three things I observed in this remarkably successful class and that I observe regularly in our Robofun classes.
The students felt understood and supported by their teacher. If you feel understood, you can express vulnerability, a key part of being open to learning.
I was observing not simply a class, but a community of learners working together. The teacher was remarkable at facilitating group interaction and connection.
The students felt they could succeed and they trusted their teacher. Feeling you are in a trusting and supportive environment is an important part of opening up and learning.
Walking into a classroom like this shouldn't be a rare occurrence, but it is not as common as one would think. I'm proud of our staff and teachers. Our Robofun students regularly feel they are understood, trusted, supported, and in a community of learners.
