Kindergarten students will have a blast building robots (such as the alligator, turtle, train, and car!) by building Legos around a battery box and motors. In the process of making their constructions move, they will learn basic engineering and simple machine principles; for example, they will learn how gear meshing works to transmit energy and how electricity works. They will also build in pairs and work with their teachers to develop critical teamwork skills. They will exercise both their imaginations and mechanic skills as they build from blueprints and brainstorm their own free builds throughout. Students may come in uncertain how to build, but they will leave with a sense of confidence in themselves knowing how to build what their mind imagines!
