Minecraft & Circuits
Students will use the beloved and popular Minecraft platform as a gateway to learn about the intricacies of electricity. They will learn to think like engineers by designing machines that use pistons, levers, buttons, traps, and combination locks in Minecraft. They do this using the game’s version of circuitry (called “redstone”) to power elaborate buildings with floors, walls, and doors that open and close. Afterwards, they move on to soldering and wiring real-world electrical contraptions. These contraptions include everything from an alarm box that goes off when opened to an LED wand. The result is that students learn complex principles of circuitry while having fun in the fast dynamic and easy building of the Minecraft world. They can then bring this understanding into their real world electrical projects and leave with a sense of pride for having created devices they have wired themselves!
