Trust and Connection: Five Ideas for How to Grow this with your Child!

intrepid

Trust, Honesty, and Connecting. FREE Intrepid Events for GIRLS!

I often think about how we support the next generation of children to be happy and thriving adults. One could write much more than what I have here, but these ideas may prompt your own thinking.

  1. Notice what seems exciting to your child. It is important to be your child's advocate as much as possible. If you notice what they like (and don't like), you can more organically help grow their interests.

  2. Communicate clearly, regularly, and in different ways. I have a memory of my son, at about 8, bopping me with a foam sword repeatedly. After about the 5th bop, l said in a very stern tone "You have to stop. I've told you many times." He looked at me and I could see it finally sunk in. The next time he exhibited inappropriate behavior, I changed tactics. I stopped what we were doing and explained WHY what he was doing was not good. I had clear eye contact with him. It made a huge difference.

  3. Admit mistakes. We all make mistakes. It is a great growing moment for your child to see you admit your mistake and change course. It is a great modeling moment.

  4. Trust. Admitting mistakes, and noticing what your child is excited about (versus what we'd like them to be excited about....) are important in having a loving and trusting relationship.

  5. Laugh together! Laughing and playing together are so important! We can get so involved in our mental to-do list that we forget to just enjoy life together.

We are excited about an amazing spring at our 102nd and Broadway Space and an amazing summer at our new space starting July 17th at 65th & West End Avenue.
